Nordkapphallen
Sparkling North Cape
21-07-2009
In connection with the launch of a new champagne bar at Nordkapphallen, special labels have been designed for bottles of sparkling wine which are exclusive to the bar.
Nordkapphallen's traditional Champagne, Caviar & Certificate (CCC) has always been a great way to celebrate the arrival at North Cape and Europe's northernmost point. Carl Vogt, a German tour guide, started the tradition by taking crates and crates of champagne to celebrate his and his guests' arrival at the northernmost point. Later, a separate champagne room was built where guests were served champagne and caviar and were given a certificate as a memento of their trip there. At that time, it was just the upper-class who could afford such a thing. This tradition has been kept alive until the present day, and there are now many groups and individuals that take part in this traditional celebration.
"We have decided to take this a step further by opening a new champagne bar at North Cape," says F&B Controller, Marita Pettersen of Rica Finnmark. The bar is located in the panorama hall, with uninterrupted views of the Globe, which is a recognised symbol of North Cape.
The bar is called Aurora Borealis, which is Latin for Northern Lights. The North Cape is a fantastic place to experience the Northern Lights on clear winter days, so we are honouring this by naming the bar after them.
The champagne bar offers champagne and sparkling wine in all classes and, of course, it also offers a taste of the North Cape by serving food such as king crab, whale and local fish. "We emphasise local produce, which gives everyone a chance to taste some of the ingredients the north has to offer. And it goes without saying, we also have our classic caviar," says Marita.
- In connection with the opening of the bar, we have designed our own labels for our sparkling wine, Henkell Trocken. We feel this adds to this great tradition we have at North Cape and it makes it even more special to say "cheers" when bathed in midnight sun, surrounded by spectacular nature.
